NAMM 2025: Boss has unveiled the Waza Tube Amp Expander Core, a cutting-edge solution tailored for tube amp enthusiasts looking too enhance their recording and practice sessions.
This compact version of the Waza Tube Amp Expander integrates a variable reactive loadbox, analog power amplifier, impulse response (IR) loader, and loudspeaker emulator into a single unit, featuring a 30-watt reactive power driver at its heart.
According to Boss, this design enables musicians to connect a speaker cabinet and achieve optimal amp tones at volumes suitable for home use.
Tube amplifiers are renowned for their powerful sound, often requiring high volumes that can disturb neighbors. The Tube Amp Expander Core addresses this challenge by capturing the output of a driven amp with a reactive load that faithfully replicates the behavior of both combo and stack-style speakers.
The isolated signal produced can be utilized for professional-quality recordings and low-volume jam sessions, while the accompanying editor software offers a versatile platform for refining the raw amp sound.
With 22 cabinet simulations available, users can mix and match with five different microphone types, allowing for dual mic setups. The positioning, distance, and levels of the microphones can be adjusted, and players can also utilize two speaker impulse responses concurrently, choosing from 10 built-in Celestion options or loading third-party IRs into 64 available slots.
Additionally, the unit features high-fidelity internal processing that can apply compression, EQ, delay, and reverb effects, with the ability to save custom configurations for quick access.
Connectivity options are plentiful, including USB for direct integration with digital audio workstations (daws) and stereo XLR outputs for mixers and audio interfaces. Musicians can also connect to a cabinet or utilize the Air Feel feature during headphone use.
For those seeking wireless capabilities, the optional Bluetooth Audio MIDI Dual Adapter (approximately $40) allows for smartphone connectivity to control the editing software remotely.
While digital amp modelers are currently trending, many traditionalists still prefer the authentic sound of tube amplifiers. Consequently, there is a wide array of products designed to optimize their setups.
The Boss Waza Tube Amp Expander Core competes with established recording and performance tools, notably the Global Audio Ox Amp Top Box and the simpler Two Notes Torpedo. With its extensive feature set, the Core positions itself as a strong contender in this market.
Priced at $699.99, the Boss Waza Tube amp Expander core empowers musicians to fully utilize their tube amp’s output, enhanced by premium cabinet emulation and studio-grade processing to create impactful, mix-ready guitar tracks.
