The ‘hottest band in the land,’ seems to want your money now more than ever before. And they may just get it with KISS’s newly released Alive! 50TH Anniversary Deluxe Edition.
The cash you plunk down for any of a wide array of formats for this set is kind of worth it though. This 1975 live album truly catapulted vocalist/ guitarist Paul Stanley, bassist/vocalist Gene Simmons, drummer/vocalist Peter Criss and just departed guitarist Ace Frehley to the topper most of the rock poppermost, as much a needed last-ditch shot-in-the-arm for the foursome at the time as their record company Casablanca. KISS being a sure concert wower live than ever a record-making entity (at least up to that time) the risk to give KISS to the world via a live album, paid off. Listeners finally got to hear what all the talk was about seeing this powerhouse band live from the sixteen original tracks gathered here from shows at Cobo Arena in Detroit, MI, Cleveland Music Hall in Cleveland, OH, RKO Orpheum Theatre in Davenport, IA and Wildwood Convention Hall in Wildwood, NJ.
KISS producer Eddie Kramer has completed new mixes of the songs from these gigs, plus the extras, which include the full set of the aforementioned shows—slightly different as they all are—plus live rehearsal tracks from Davenport. Also, among the ‘Kollectibles’ offered in the set are a 100-page hardcover book, unreleased photos, a reprint of the press kit, a T-shirt iron-on, to name but a few.
For fans, completists or those loving the era of big live album scoring across the landscape, KISS Alive! 50TH Anniversary Deluxe Edition, will really make you feel that rock and roll is…alive.
