#GeorgeHarrisonFuturamaSells for Record $1.27 Million

George Harrison’s Futurama has made history as the most expensive Beatles electric guitar to sell at auction, fetching an impressive $1.27 million in Julien’s hotly anticipated Played, Worn and Torn auction event.

##Record-Breaking Auction

The auction saw the Futurama electric guitar exceed its pre-auction estimate of $800,000, surpassing guitar legends such as Eric Clapton’s ‘Blackie’ and Bob Dylan’s Newport Fender Strat to become one of the most expensive guitars ever sold at auction.

In fact, George Harrison’s Futurama is now ranked as the joint-11th most expensive auction guitar and is part of the same million-dollar club as guitars from John Lennon, Eric Clapton, and Kurt Cobain.

Before the Gretsch Duo Jet became his main guitar in 1962, George Harrison performed over 300 shows with the Beatles using the Futurama at the legendary Cavern Club and during their Hamburg tours in the early 1960s.

##Historical Significance

Harrison’s iconic Futurama guitar played a significant role in shaping the Beatles’ early sound and style during their groundbreaking performances at the Cavern Club in Liverpool and their historic Hamburg Days. Despite its previous failure to meet reserve price at a 2019 auction, Julien’s Auctions Executive Director Martin Nolan is thrilled with the historical significance of this record-breaking sale.

##The Quasi-Strat Replica

Harrison acquired the Futurama in the late 1950s from Hessy’s Music Centre in Liverpool due to a lack of Fender Strats in the UK market at the time.

##Significant History

Despite being eclipsed in price by John Lennon’s 12-string Help! Framus guitar, the Futurama remains a highly significant sale, and Julien’s Auctions is thrilled to add it to their million-dollar club.
